Day 1: Vientiane to Paklay – 260 km

Your day begins with a journey out of Laos’ bustling capital, Vientiane. We ride through the surrounding scenic countryside and follow the Mekong River towards our destination, Paklay. Today’s ride has been intentionally designed to give you a fairly easy introduction into the swing of things. The route still includes dramatic scenery changes such as huge paddy fields and the rolling hills of Xayabuli province, to name just two. We get to our guest house in the early evening and relax with a few beers. Then a good dinner and a good night’s sleep.

Day 2: Paklay to Xaiyabuli – 200 km

Today sees us go through the protected area of the Nam Phouy National Park with its historic trails in picturesque countryside. We’ll take some time out to explore the area including new trails continuously cut by the locals. When we arrive in Xaiyabuli, it will be for an overnight stay in a local guest house. We’ll eat in a local restaurant before tucking in for the night.

Day 3: Xaiyabuli to Luang Prabang – 188 km

After breakfast, we head out through more stunning countryside. This whole area is perfect for the bikes, as we transverse trails made up of farm roads and river crossings. Those trails cross the Mekong into the UNESCO town of Luang Prabang. On arrival at our Hotel there, we’ll settle in and then head out for a night out on the town. You’ll be shown the local sights and treated to great local hospitality

Day 4: Luang Prabang to Udomxai – 192 km

Time to say goodbye to Luang Prabang and head north out of town. The dirt tracks start just before the Pak Ou Caves. We take some great ones through the hills towards Udomxai. Sights of the new train tracks can be seen. The last section is a short tarmac blast into town, where we stay overnight in a Nam Kat Yorla resort.

Day 5: Udomxai to Bounthai – 240 km

Let’s get an early start today and pack in some calories before we ride north over great trails and mountain passes, all with jaw dropping views. Your senses will be overwhelmed by the area’s many features, including different ethnic tribes in their natural environments. We’ll stop overnight in Bounthai, again in a local guest house. There we’ll have a local meal and a further taste of typical Lao cuisine.

Day 6: Bounthai to Phongsaly – 140 km

A pretty easy day today, allowing everybody some relaxation. We head off to explore new tracks to Phongsaly, which is motorcycle heaven. The scenery is absolutely spectacular. We intend to arrive at Phongsaly early, allowing us time to appreciate its beautiful surroundings. Then an evening of local food, drink, and traditional hospitality.

Day 7: Phongsaly to Muang Khau – 240 km

A big breakfast is essential today, along with a packed lunch as we have some distance to travel. We take on one of the best rides in the North. A long day riding along single, narrow dirt tracks, crossing mountains and rivers. The ride is just amazing! Then Muang Khau and a Guesthouse complete with local food and drink.

Day 8: Muang Khua to Viengtong (Hiam) – 267 km

Another big day. Slightly easier than yesterday, as we immediately get on the dirt tracks again. Then, through the hills until we hit the road. It’s a hell of road though, rising and falling, with more bends than a race track. We arrive at Viengtong and off to the hot springs for a relaxing bath with the locals. Again, we stay in a local guest house and eat local food.

Day 9: Viengtong to Phonsavan – 161 km

A shorter day today as we get on the dirt road straight away and head up to Ban Nakhan. Ban Nakhan, built in 1965, was home to Lima Site 36 in the Vietnam War. It was a secret air base then and its runway, and remnants of that war, are still visible today. After a tour of the site, we head down to Phonsavan through beautiful jungle trails. We arrive at Phonsavan’s wide open plains, where we visit the famous Plain of Jars. Then into town and go to our guest house and the evening’s entertainment.

Day 10: Phonsavan to Vientiane – 300 km

Last day today and an early start is required. We have a few options for today’s route, which we will have discussed and decided last night (mystery tour). Irrespective of what we decided, we still have some off roading to do. We’ll do that, then get back on the road for our last leg back into Vientiane. A large dinner with an evening of entertainment will mark the end of our tour.
