7 Day-Secret war trails of Northern Laos
Touring Information
During the secret war in Laos, many trails snaked through the mountains of Northern Laos, an extremely rugged terrain. This tour takes us on some of those trails, passing through some major sites along the route. These secret war trails and sites include Ls85,36 and LS 32 Boum Long. Then it’s onto Long Tieng and Xaysomeboun. Some fantastic riding in these areas, remote and wild. If you enjoy the History of The Secret War and trail riding, this is the tour for you. DEPARTURE/RETURN LOCATION. Luang Prabang
DEPARTURE TIME. The tour will start at 8.30 am. Please be informed, that you arrived at least one day before the tour started in Luang Prabang. We recommend two days before the tour starts to acclimate and avoid jet lag.
RETURN TIME. The tour will finish at about 4/5 pm.
GEAR. We recommend bringing your gear to be the most comfortable. But we also offer some gear rental, helmets, jackets, boots, gloves, and knee guards. Please be informed, that we do not offer trousers due to hygienic reasons.

Day 1) Luang Prabang to Muang Hiam. Starting our Journey after a briefing, we will hit the trail heading North East across country to Munag Hiam, famous for its Hot springs. We can take a dip in the natural warm water before enjoying our evening together. 230 Kilometers6 Hrs riding.
Day 2) Hiam to Xam Neua Via Ls 85. Up bright and early for another great day on the trails, we’ll be heading North into the mountains to LS85, the mountain Tacan site used to guide in the bombers to Hanoi. Now a tourist attraction. After scaling the mountain, it’s onto Xan Neua for the evening & a well-earned rest. 185 Kilometers 5 Hrs riding.
Day 3) Xam Neua to Phonsavan via Ls 36 & 32. It’s going to be a long ride today, but we have an easy first couple of hours, followed by some serious trail riding. We will visit LS36 and Las 32 en route before getting back on the easy stuff into Phonsavan. We have a nice hotel to stay in tonight and relax. 240 Kilometers 7 Hrs riding.
Day 4) Phonsvan to Long Tieng. Ls20A. After yesterday’s big effort, today is a short day to Long Tieng. Would should arrive just after lunch, which will give us the time to have a look around the most secret place on earth. The rest of the day can be spent relaxing and getting some clothes cleaned. 100 Kilometers 4 Hrs riding.
Day 5) Long Tieng to Anuvong (Xaysomeboun) Another short day today. The trails we ride today are fantastic, once again into the mountains, where we will climb up to some fantastic viewpoints. On arrival at Anuvong, we have a great little resort to stay at in the majestic mountains of Anuvong. 105 Kilometerrs 4hrs riding.
Day 6) Anuvong to Vang Vieng. No need for an early start today as we will take a 3-hour ferry across the lakes towards Vang Vieng, party capital of Laos. Tonight we can let our hair down a bit after an easy ride. We have a hotel with a rooftop pool to enjoy a few cold beers. 130 Kilometers 3 hrs riding.
Day) 7 Vang Vieng to Luang Prabang. After last night’s fun, we can take the trails north of Phloun back to Luang Prabang. The last day won’t disappoint as we make our way back through the mountains to home. On arrival time permitting we will go to Kwang Si water falls for a well earned swim. 190 Kilometers 6 hrs riding.
